  • Declaration of Independence 250th (War Is Brewing; War Is Declared) for Three Actors and Full Symphony Orchestra (Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Harp, Strings). [Incidental music demo timing: ~ 4:00].
This original dramatic, four-minute symphonic recitation scene commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, reimagining the tense decision of the clergy to read the Declaration of Independence from their pulpit in Boston, mid-July 1776—an act of high treason against the Crown. The composition is respectfully dedicated to the memory of my 5x great-grandfathers, Pvt. Martin Carringer (Penna.), Capt. Rudolph Spangler (Penna.), Pvt. Jasher Taylor (Mass.); Jasher's father, * Pvt. Jonathan Taylor (Mass.), and his brothers: Pvt. Henry Taylor (who perished in the conflict), Pvt. Jonathan Taylor (Jr.), and Pvt. Stephen Taylor, for their service and sacrifice in the American Revolution.

Quote attributed Deacon Jonathan Taylor (circa 1783):
* Who can estimate the cost of our national freedom? Yet who can doubt that it is worth to mankind vastly more than all it cost?

* During the absence of the father and four oldest sons, the mother, with the aid of her two little boys and her (four) girls, planted the farm crops, took care of the stock, and made provision as well as she could for the winter. Deacon Jonathan sometimes said that at the close of the war he was not worth a dollar in the world, so greatly had his means decreased and his estate become encumbered and wasted by the absence of himself and sons.

Above quote from the book by Taylor, H.B.: * Some Accounts of the - Ancestors - Relatives and Family of Henry Boardman Taylor with Memoir written by Himself and a Supplement by Rev. B.S. Taylor Brought down to October 1892, p. 11-12.

+ The composer began writing, harmonizing and arranging the main themes for the Viola Concerto's first movement on September 13, 1981 (initially conceived as a Violin Concerto). Recently, while examining an electronic copy of Elias Howe's 1863 book “Musicians’ Omnibus, No. 2.” from Scribd.com on April 11, 2024, the composer noticed similarities between the Concerto's main theme and the melody on page 106, titled “Irish Pipes.”

The “Irish Pipes” theme is in the public domain.
